Why Shine?

Founded in 2021, Brown Girl Shine is a community built to encourage women of color in living boldly for Christ while giving voice to our unique cultural experiences. Here we create a space that dispels myths and assumptions about who we are to tell real stories of overcoming faith.

We exist as a safe place to encourage, equip, and empower women, and to enlighten those desiring to ally in our experiences. We use multi-generational communities of color to minister to women through Bible studies, mentoring events, a podcast, and retreats.

Brown Girl, you were made to shine! You are a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. Shine brightly for Christ!

  • Intimacy with Christ. We encourage women to cultivate a deep intimate relationship with Jesus and find their worth in Him.

  • Sisterhood. We foster a strong sense of community, where women uplift and support each other emotionally, spiritually, and practically.

  • Discipleship. We promote mentoring relationships where wiser more experienced women support those earlier in their journeys.

  • Wholeness. We provide spaces for women to heal from wounds and societal pressures, fostering wholeness in Christ.
